Meet Diana, our new Senior Carbon Specialist. Diana has a background in engineering, winemaking and hospitality and has developed guidance on measuring organisation emissions for clients in the primary sector and waste industries. The passionate winemaker tells us why sustainability matters to her.
What attracted you to thinkstep-anz?
I want to assist companies on their sustainability journey from start to finish. The people I previously met from thinkstep-anz were so knowledgeable and friendly, that when this role came up, I applied immediately. I'm really excited to be part of the team and get stuck in!
What are your most important work experiences?
In my previous role, I supported clients in measuring the carbon footprints of their products. I also developed guidance on measuring organisation emissions for clients in the primary sector and waste industries and focused on staying up to date with what was happening in those industries from a climate perspective.
What does sustainability mean to you?
It's a holistic approach to leaving things better than you found them. At its core, it's about acknowledging that our environment is a dynamic, living, interconnected, entity - which we're very much a part of - and empathising with it.
Once you empathise with something, it makes you want to do what you can to try and make things better. That's why I'm passionate about sustainability and environmental causes.
You worked in the wine industry. Why did you move to a career in sustainability?
Agriculture is the canary in the coal mine (pardon the expression!) for climate change and other planetary boundaries. I've worked in the wine industry for over a decade and seen wine styles of entire regions shift and change as a result of climate change. I've worked with vintages affected by wildfires and flooding. (0 stars, don't recommend!) and experienced those devastating impacts firsthand. This motivates me to roll up my sleeves and do what I can to help.
